There may be a small ceramic loop next to the clasp. This acts as an "interrupter" so that there is not a ring of solid metal around the wrist. This helps improve the functionality slightly, although it is not crucial for the bracelet to work properly.

Caring for your bracelet. To care for your gold vermeil and sterling silver jewelry focus on gentle handling and storage to preserve the gold layer. Avoid harsh chemicals, water, and excessive rubbing, which can damage the plating. Regularly clean with a soft cloth and mild soap, and store pieces separately in a dry, cool place. Use the below as guidelines: 

  • Keep jewelry away from perfumes, lotions, hairsprays, and other chemicals that can erode the gold layer. 
  • Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising, as water can dull the gold and accelerate wear.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down the piece after each wear. For a deeper clean, mix mild dish soap with lukewarm water and use a soft toothbrush to scrub gently. 
  • Rinse the jewelry under lukewarm water to remove any soap residue and pat dry with a soft cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners. 
  • Store separately, preferably in its original box or a soft pouch, to prevent scratching and tarnishing. 
  • Use a gold-polishing cloth to buff the piece and restore its shine, avoiding excessive pressure.
